Region: Bourgueil, situated in the Loire Valley, is famous for its red wines made predominantly from Cabernet Franc. The region’s vineyards are planted on a mix of sandy, gravelly, and clay-limestone soils, which contribute to the distinct characteristics of Bourgueil wines.

Bourgueil: the wine of Jean Carmet
“Bourgueil is in my heart, it’s the best address. This was the sentiment of actor Jean Carmet, born in Bourgueil in 1920, who praised his native vineyard until his passing in 2014. This highly acclaimed AOC is located in Indre-et-Loire across seven communes, covering a total of 1,400 hectares. Known for its predominantly red wines and a touch of rosé, Bourgueil boasts a unique, ocean-influenced temperate climate that sets it apart in the region.
200 years of cabernet Franc
In the heart of a region extending from the right bank of the Loire to the surrounding forests, the vineyard of Bourgueil is shielded from cold winds. Here, Cabernet Franc, also known as Cabernet Breton, is sometimes accompanied by Cabernet Sauvignon. Pierre Audebert planted the first vines in 1812. Two centuries later, his descendants, Louis and Félix, continue to cultivate with unwavering passion. Maison d’Audebert & Fils spans 42 hectares across Bourgueil, Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil, and Chinon. At Domaine du Grand Clos, wines are harvested and vinified on-site, such as the delicate cuvée “Les Grands Rangs,” a Bourgueil available in our Boxed packaging.
